The latest Iraq war is to be broadcast live
online.
Reuters
today announced the launch of a streaming video service that will provide viewers with
"front-line footage ranging from battlefield images to natural sound. The
Reuters Raw Video service will be available via the company's homepage.
Reuters terminal users will also be able to receive a scrolling update of the main
stories, analysis and comments.
The new streaming video service is in line with Reuters new multimedia strategy.
After the relaunch of its website last year, the company intends to extend its coverage
from financial to consumer content. Although this is the first launch of the Raw Video
service, the company intends to offer other similar services in the future.
How far the group of 150 Reuters journalists in Iraq will be able to cover the conflict
independent from military censorship and control remains to be seen. During the last Iraq
war, journalists were assigned to so-called press pools and shown sites
selected by the allied forces. Military concerns about what was termed "security of
information and the safety of journalists meant that members of such press pools had
to submit any story to military censors before publication. Independent reporting was
consequently rendered almost impossible. |
